Alcohol Public Notices

When a business applies for an on-licence, off-licence, club licence, or renewal of those licences, they are required to publicly notify it.

All public notices for an alcohol licence will be posted online for a period of 25 working days before they become archived.

Notice of District Licensing Committee Hearings

We hold District Licensing Committee (DLC) hearings if:

  • an agency - such as the police, Medical Officer of Health or an alcohol licensing inspector - opposes an alcohol licence / certificate application; and/or
  • a member of the public objects to an alcohol licence / certificate application.

Objecting to an alcohol licence

An application can be viewed during ordinary office hours at any of our service centres. Contact us on (07) 8680200 or customer.services@tcdc.govt.nz to arrange a time to view the application.

To object to an alcohol licence application, you'll need to:

  • notify us in writing that you wish to object and the reasons why (ensuring your reasons meet the criteria noted in sections 105 and 131 of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012)
  • make sure to include your full name, address, email address and contact telephone number
  • file your objection with us within 25 working days from the date the notice of application was posted on our website 

You should be aware that a copy of your objection, including your name and street name, will be given to the applicant and made public through the hearing agenda.
