District Plan

Overview

The Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) requires every district council in New Zealand to have a district plan. The Thames-Coromandel District Plan identifies key resource management issues in the district and controls the way land is used, developed, and subdivided.

The Thames-Coromandel District currently has two District Plans in effect:

  • Thames-Coromandel Operative in Part District Plan 2024
  • Thames-Coromandel Operative District Plan 2010

The Thames-Coromandel Operative in Part District Plan 2024 applies to almost all activities and locations in the district. A small section of this District Plan (Section 27.10) remains subject to an Environment Court appeal from our last district plan review. We have annotated that part of the plan in red text.

Some activities require a resource consent under rules in the district plan. For information on resource consents, see: Resource Consents
