Tōtara Valley Road Services Extension

Our Council is extending infrastructure up Tōtara Valley Road, just to the south of the main Thames township, in order to open up the area for housing development.

Thames water main upgrades

We're upgrading sections of the drinking water network in Thames to meet current Council standards and support a safe, reliable water supply into the future.

Thames Sports Partnership Project

Enhanced maintenance is proposed to prolong the use of Thames' main sport fields at Rhodes Park which are at risk of flooding, while planning long-term to acquire land for a replacement sports site.

Thames South Water Improvements Project

A $19.4 million water upgrade is planned for rural communities in Thames South over two years, to be built in a staged manner, starting in 2026 and continuing into 2028. The new water supply will benefit 1,000 residents who currently receive untreated water.

Thames Aquatic Facilities Project

Funding to construct a new pool in Thames will be included in the Council's draft 2027-2037 Long Term Plan which will go out for public consultation early in 2027.

Historic Kopu Bridge Project

In March 2018 New Zealand Transport Agency [NZTA] handed over the maintenance and financial responsibility of the bridge to the Kopu Bridge and Community Trust.

Porritt Park playground upgrade

A new, innovative ‘destination’ playground for Thames’ Porritt Park has opened with a bespoke designed boat, Wakatere, climbing tower and lookout as the centrepieces. Further construction of a half basketball court and enhanced accessible toilets is planned.

Sir Keith Park Statue

Sir Keith Park led Britain’s main air defence forces against Germany’s Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain in World War II, saving the country from a looming land invasion, and now he has been memorialised with a bronze statue in his hometown – Thames.
