District Licensing Committee

The Thames-Coromandel District Licensing Committee (DLC) deals with alcohol licensing matters for the Thames-Coromandel District under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 (the Act).

The committee is a separate legal entity of Council who considers and determines:
  • all new applications for alcohol licences and manager's certificates, either contested or uncontested
  • all renewal applications for alcohol licences and manager's certificates, either contested or uncontested
  • applications for Temporary Authorities
  • applications for variations to alcohol licence conditions

Other functions of the District Licensing Committee include conducting inquiries, reporting and making referrals to the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority (ARLA).

The District Licensing Committee meet as and when required. Uncontested applications for a licence or manager's certificate are decided on solely by a commissioner. Contested applications (applications that are opposed or objected to) require a quorum of three DLC members which will consist of a commissioner and two list members. Contested applications will be heard in front of the DLC at a public hearing.
