Hours at Refuse and Recycling Transfer Stations

The following Refuse and Recycling Transfer Stations (RTS) will be open for reduced hours on single days while their weighbridges are serviced then calibrated.Wednesday 10 December

  • Thames: 10am – 5.30pm
  • Whangamatā: 8.30am – 3.30pm

Thursday 11 December

  • Tairua: 10am – 5.30pm
  • Whitianga: 8.30am – 3.30pm

Standard opening hours

Our seven Refuse and Recycling Transfer Stations – at Thames, Coromandel Town, Matarangi, Whitianga, Tairua, Pāuanui and Whangamatā – are open to standard hours, seven days a week including most public holidays. To help us close on time, the last customer transaction can only be accepted 10 minutes before closing.

During daylight saving

28 September 2025 – 4 April 2026

Monday to Sunday, 8.30am – 5.30pm

Outside of daylight saving

5 April 2026 – 26 September 2026

 

Monday to Sunday, 8.30am – 4.30pm

Closed

Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and until 1pm on Anzac day

After-hours drop-off

The transfer stations at Matarangi, Tairua, Whangamatā and Pāuanui all have after-hours disposal facilities for rubbish bags at $5 each (household waste only) and free drop-off of recycling and glass. For all other materials please visit the sites during opening hours.
