A warning about no swimming, fishing or shellfish gathering around the Whangarahi Stream is in place following an overflow of treated wastewater on 9 July. Following the clean-up, environmental monitoring is still in progress.
A ban on swimming, fishing and shellfish collection in the Moana Anuanu estuary remains in place while clean-up of recent contamination takes place.

Following comments from a few of our Elected Members, our Council wishes to provide some clarity regarding the tragic incident in Hāhei over the weekend.
Thames-Coromandel District Council is not involved in the investigation at this stage and will only become involved if requested by the Police.
The Police are leading this investigation, and it’s important that all matters are referred to them in the first instance. They are the appropriate authority to provide accurate details about what happened.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this loss during such a difficult time.
