Celebrating the unsung heroes of our district
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Community Service Awards, giving you the chance to recognise the volunteers, supporters and local champions who help make the Thames-Coromandel such a special place to live.
Held every two years, the awards celebrate people whose dedication, generosity and hard work have made a lasting impact on their community, often without recognition or pay.
Nominations opened on 5 October and close on 8 November 2026, so now is the time for residents to shine a light on those who go above and beyond for others.
With award recipients to be honoured at a special ceremony in December, we're looking forward to hearing the stories of the remarkable people making a difference across our district every day. Nominate someone you know who's making a difference in our community.

Smoke testing for Matarangi
From Monday 12 October, our Council plans to carry out smoke testing to maintain and improve the Matarangi wastewater network.
A non-toxic white smoke will be pumped into sections of the network to help identify unwanted connections or defects.
People may see white smoke emerging from manholes or from sewer vents, gully traps and potentially cracks in the ground, retaining walls, or other locations where wastewater pipes may be damaged.
In the unlikely event of the harmless smoke entering a building, people should open doors and windows and notify Council's testing crew.
Our teams will be working around manholes and road reserves during this time.
The testing may take about two weeks.
