Maori Wards and our Community
On Saturday, 6 September 2025, this local election you will be asked if you want to keep our TCDC Māori Ward. But what do you actually know about Māori wards? join us to hear an experienced panel on Māori wards.
Speakers:
1. Andrew Judd - ex Mayor of New Plymouth.
In 2013, Andrew was elected Mayor of Ngāmotu/New Plymouth. In the process of trying to adopt a Māori ward in his district, Andrew experienced firsthand the conflicting positions in his community about fair Māori representation.
2. Dale-Maree Morgan - Current Māori ward Councilor for Waipā.
Ngāti Raukawa ki Wharepūhunga, Ngāti Maniāpoto. Dale-Maree has been the Māori ward Councillor in Wāipa since 2022 and has seen Māori wards improve representation, inclusive decision making and social cohesion.
