How Council works
The Thames-Coromandel District Council’s role is to enable and give effect to democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of, communities and to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural wellbeing of communities in the present and for the future.
The Council governs a wide range of local services including roads, water systems, rubbish collection, libraries, parks, community centres, dog registration, community and economic development, and district planning.
The Thames-Coromandel District Council currently includes the Mayor and 9 Councillors - one from the Coromandel-Colville ward, three elected from the Mercury Bay Ward, two elected from the South-Eastern Ward and three from the Thames Ward.
There are five Community Boards across the four wards being Coromandel-Colville, Mercury Bay, Tairua-Pāuanui, Thames and Whangamatā. Click this page to learn more 'Community Board Members'.
