Pāuanui Airfield

Few places are as unique as Pāuanui for the sheer privilege of flying into a beautiful beach community and parking your plane at your house off the runway.

That is the beauty of Pāuanui airfield (NZUN), a small aerodrome 30 minutes’ flying time from Auckland on the east coast of the Coromandel. The Airfield has a grass strip 850 x 60m and a taxi area on the southern side. Signposted aircraft parking areas are at either end of the airfield and a passenger pick-up and drop-off area is on the western end at the airfield office.

Situated next to the airfield is a golf course, and nearby is the Pāuanui village with cafes and retail stores. Please be aware, there is no aircraft fuel available in Pāuanui. Upon flying into the airfield you’ll see the surf breaking at the eastern end of the runway with the harbour at the western end.

Pāuanui is surrounded by high terrain from north through west to the south. Mount Pāuanui dominates, rising to over 1200 feet within 1nm to the south of the airfield.
