Our roading contractor advises that Port Charles Road is now open.
We've put up "no swimming" signs north of the marina, while we investigate the cause of high bacterial counts. The no-swimming measure is a precaution while the cause is pinpointed. Storm water drains and wastewater assets have been inspected and no leaks, overflows, or contamination from Council infrastructure have been sighted.
The Ministry for Primary Industries has issued a public health warning advising the public not to collect or consume shellfish harvested from the mouth of the Otahu River at the southern end of Whangamata Beach, southwards to the Bay of Plenty. All other areas of the Coromandel are fine.
