What's on in the Coromandel?

It looks as though summer has arrived early in the Coromandel this year and with it a vast range of exciting events to keep the whole family entertained. Don't forget to get along and support your local community groups and business at the Santa Parades around the district this Saturday.

The Coromandel EV Scenic Touring Route is now open!

Our Council has partnered with Charge Net NZ, Powerco and EECA to install five fast EV chargers in our main town centres. More details and locations on

We're holding a launch event with Charge Net on Saturday 9 December 12.00pm - 1.00pm at the Coromandel Town fast EV charger site at the Woollams Ave car park.

The day will start at 12.00pm with a few speeches from Charge Net NZ officials and our Mayor Sandra Goudie, followed by rides & drives in electric vehicles.

At 2.00pm, the electric vehicles will take part in the Santa Parade through Coromandel Town

If you would like to ride in, or drive an electric car, talk to one of the car owners and they'll make it happen. You'll also get to find out what it's like to own an EV straight from a user.

Get into the Christmas spirit with  the Thames Christmas light display.  A combination of light, static display and hands on creativity. Make this part of your Christmas tradition and spend an evening out with the kids.

Thames Public Art Trust - Sculpture Competition

Competition is open to anyone interested in developing sculpture projects to populate the Kopu -Thames leg of the Hauraki Rail Trail.

Thames Library and Mercruy Bay Library Lego Club: Tuesday afternoons 3.30 - 4.30pm

Tuesday 12 December - Christmas spectacular - Santa, reindeer and sleigh, Christmas tree town, a fireplace, a stocking can you create a cozy Christmas scene?

Food for Fines is back: We know our library patrons love their local library - and for six weeks from November 6th, even clearing an overdue book fine will make you feel good. Patrons will have the option of donating a non-perishable food item instead of paying their overdue fees, and each donated item will reduce the fee by $4.00. The food will be donated to the local Food Bank, just in time for Christmas. Food for Fines runs from 6 November  to 15 December. Pick up a list of suggested items to donate from your local library branch.

Whanga Week ™   was started by the club Patron, Richard Scelly Q.S.M 32 years ago in 1985 as a way to encourage families and friends to participate in outdoor events over the summer season and raise funds to help the club purchase the vital equipment needed to help protect the men, women and children who use the aquatic environment at Whangamata.

Moehau Enviroment Group

January 2018 programme.

Each year a dedicated bunch of volunteers from Moehau Environment Group run a Summer Programme over January on the Coromandel. The programme offers kiwis and visitors the chance to experience and enjoy Coromandel’s natural treasures guided by local volunteers keen to share their passion and knowledge. Keltic Fair

The Keltic Fair is one of New Zealand's most successful fairs and the highlight of the Coromandel holiday season. Over 300 stalls including arts and crafts, food stalls, all-day entertainment. Entry $2 per person over 5-year-old with all gate proceeds going to the Coromandel Area School.

Pauanui Summer Series Market Day

The Annual Market Day is one of the largest in the Coromandel with over 150 different stalls. Everything from art, crafts, tools, clothing, and delicious food.  Not to mention a huge area filled with kid’s amusements. There truly is something for everyone!

Tairua Food and Wine Festival

The Tairua School Wine & Food Festival is a major event for the local community and an important fundraiser for the school. The upcoming festival boasts an array of exciting new aspects along with the usual favourites, with a big focus on celebrating all things local to the Coromandel. Leadfoot Festival
