Members of the Coromandel Harbour Stakeholders Working Group finalised.

Members of the Coromandel Harbour Stakeholders Working Group have now been confirmed.

The Group was established following a project briefing held in Coromandel Town 29 May 2014, attended by more than 150 people. The meeting was arranged to share findings on a range of proposed options for developing wharf and boat ramp facilities in Coromandel Harbour.

The two preferred sites are the areas; Furey's Creek to Coromandel Wharf; and Sugarloaf to Windy Point at Te Kouma.

Along with our Council staff and 3 elected members (Council and Coromandel / Colville Community Board), WRC and DoC, there's also 17 people on the Stakeholders Working Group representing the following organisations:

  • Coromandel Business Association

  • Te Kouma Residents & Ratepayers
  • Waipapa Bay Protection Society
  • Coromandel Harbour and Boating Association

"This group will be the forum through which community and stakeholder views and issues can be tabled and included in the project for consultation," says Greg Hampton, Council's Project Manager.

The Working Group doesn't have delegated authority to make decisions but will be relied upon for recommendations and direction on the project. Local knowledge is really important with the development of the facility.

"We want to thank everyone who put their name forward or nominated someone to be involved in the working group," says Mr Hampton. "We have ensured that there's representation from every group that may be affected in some way by this project."

The Stakeholders Group will hold two meetings scheduled in June and July. From those meetings a report will be taken to our Economic Development Committee and then on to Council for decision on the proposed Coromandel Harbour Development Strategy and preferred site/s for development.

In our 2014/2015 Annual Plan a provisional sum of $850k has also been reserved for the purpose of funding a resource consent for a Council approved concept, following the delivery of a business case.
