District Plan Review: Come to the community meeting this month

If you care about the future of how land on the Coromandel is used, how our heritage is retained and how we allow for economic development in our district, then you should take an interest in the District Plan Review.

We have released our draft District Plan for comment and want to hear your thoughts. You can make comment from now until January 31.

We know this is daunting for a lot of people, which is why we're hosting community open days in Tairua and Pauanui where staff will be available to help you understand the draft and explain how you can best have input.

  • Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club, Monday 14 January 2013, 4 - 6pm
  • Tairua Library, Saturday 19 January 2013 9am - 12pm.

You can also view our draft plan online and make a submission. Alternatively, download the comment form, complete it and return it to us.

New all-tide boat ramp for Mary Beach Tairua

Pictured: Tairua-Pauanui contractors Storm Contracting were used for the job, working in with two other local contractors.

Concrete was poured on Thursday last week at the boat ramp in Mary Beach, Tairua, creating an impressive all-tide facility that will be much appreciated by boaties.

The $35,000 project was completed in time for the busy Christmas and New Year period and is a vast improvement on the old ramp that could not be used at low tide.

A $1.2 million upgrade to the Mary Beach area to create more trailer parking is in our Ten Year Plan.

This forms the priorities for the Community Board in the coming year and has been developed by staff based on priorities identified in community plans or issues of concern in the board's area.

It's developed in accordance with the Ten Year Plan for 2012-2022, which is consulted on every three years and highlights priorities for spending on projects.

Actions include installation of street lights, construction of footpaths, renewing service level agreements with local groups for the operation of the community hall in Hikuai and Pauanui Community Library, progressing a Community Facility in Pauanui, replacing the Pepe playground equipment and investigating future options for Red Bridge Rd industrial area in Tairua.
