Moanataiari Update # 39 Health Risk Assessment Approved 02 August 2012 The latest update from the Moanataiari project team Governance Group meeting highlights The Governance Group approved the full Health Risk Assessment (HRA) yesterday after the trial showed that the bioavailability of arsenic (how much can be absorbed by the body) was less than 10%. The full HRA will ensure the science and findings are more robust so that the final remediation options selected by the Governance Group are appropriate. Second series of workshops cancelled We've received a large amount of feedback from the first series of workshops held last month. As a result, we've decided to cancel the second set of workshops due to be held next week. The project team have enough information to go on now to start planning for remediation. We will send you the feedback from the workshops very soon. A big thank you to those who participated, we've learnt a lot of very valuable information. Next steps The team will also be in touch very soon with more detailed information about what's happening next, but in a nutshell here are the next steps: The Governance Group will make a decision at the next meeting held in mid-September about what options need to be implemented (we'll get this information to you in the next few weeks). This is followed by a funding application to the Government at the end of September. Once funding is approved, we'll need to talk directly to property owners about individual property plans.
