Thames Connector public bus service

Thames Connector is operating under its normal schedule at COVID-19 Protection Framework RED.

It is a government requirement that face masks be worn on ALL public transport in New Zealand until further notice. Please do your best to social distance while using this service.

Check the government's COVID-19 website for more details.

Take the Thames Connector bus for your next trip into town. It runs between Tararu and the Booms in Parawai taking in many convenient stops in the central business district of Thames.

The service provides low-cost transport to convenient locations in the Thames town centre between Tararu and Parawai.

The cost per ride is $2 for adults, $1 for children (16 and under), children under five travel free, and Super Gold Card holders travel for free.

Thames Taxis was the supplier chosen after a competitive tender process and is using a brand-new 17-seater Ford Transit mini-bus.

The Thames Community Board approved $39,000 for the trial and Richardsons Real Estate contributed $10,000.

As the trial was deemed a success, the service now qualifies for New Zealand Transport Agency's 51% subsidy.

Waikato Regional Council holds the contract with Thames Taxis because regional councils have jurisdiction over public transport.
