Rubbish and Recycling Survey

This survey has now closed.

What do you think about rubbish and recycling?

Our Council's Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) expires in June 2023 and now is the time review it, as part of defining our future strategy for rubbish and recycling.

An important part of our review process is to ask the community for their views on all matters relating to rubbish and recycling. This feedback will go into the drafting of the WMMP.

Public meetings

We also held in-person and online sessions to take any questions or receive other feedback the survey didn't prompt.

The sessions were at the following locations and times:

  • Online session via Microsoft Teams – Wednesday 13 July 3.00pm – 4.30pm and Thursday 28 July 5:30pm-6:30pm
  • Thames Council office, 515 Mackay Street – Thursday 14 July 10.00am – 11.30am
  • Whangamatā Council office, 620 Port Road – Thursday 14 July 1.00pm – 2.30pm
  • Whitianga Council office, 10 Monk Street – Friday 15 July 10.00am – 11.30am

Once the draft WMMP is prepared it will be submitted to our Council later this year and approval asked to carry out a formal public consultation on the draft before it is finalised.

Note: We're proposing to replace the existing prepaid Council rubbish bag with a wheelie bin for Kerbside collection and to provide a separate Kerbside food waste collection as part of the new solid waste contract that will begin September 2023. Details of the new contract are currently being worked through with potential service providers.
