Freedom Camping Bylaw Review

The consultation for our Freedom Camping Bylaw Review has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in our questionnaire. 
Hearings were completed in April. 
The deliberation meeting scheduled for 25 May 2021 has been postponed and will be rescheduled. Those who have made a submission will be notified of the rescheduled date.

The review was not intended to rewrite the entire bylaw but to assess where freedom camping is currently allowed or restricted.

The Proposed Changes

During this review, the Council proposed the following changes to the Freedom Camping Bylaw:

  • re-naming the bylaw to Responsible Freedom Camping Bylaw.
  • increasing and/or moving the designated areas of eight currently restricted sites.
  • one site is proposed to change its classification from restricted to prohibited and;
  • one site is proposed to change its classification from prohibited to restricted.

Hearing

A hearing is scheduled 13 April 2021 for all submitters that indicated they wanted to present their submission at a hearing. We have contacted those that have indicated they wish to be heard.
