Conserve Water
Please Conserve Water Now To Avoid Restrictions Later!
Last year, dry weather and high demand made water restrictions necessary in some parts of the Peninsula. Council has been working hard to try to find additional sources of water in time for the summer peak period but you must remember water is a finite resource.
You can help by:
-
Fixing dripping taps immediately.
-
Only use your dishwasher and washing machine when you have a full load.
-
Have short showers and use a water saving showerhead. Only half full your bath.
-
Install a dual flush toilet cistern, and use it correctly.
-
Don’t keep water running while you are brushing your teeth, or washing vegetables.
-
Choose water efficient plants such as coastal plants, agaves and succulents and group together plants with high moisture needs (green leafy plants) so you do not have to soak the entire garden when watering these.
-
Pave any unused parts of the garden
Signs will be erected throughout the district reminding you to conserve water and if restrictions do become necessary, they will be notified there and on local radio.
Water Conservation Measures
If water does become scarce, some possible conservation measure are:
-
Sprinkler bans: The use of sprinklers is banned.
-
Odds and Evens: The use of sprinklers are banned but hoses may be used on even days of the month by houses with even street numbers, and odd days of the month by houses with odd street numbers.
-
Sprinkler and Hoses ban: The use of sprinklers and hoses is banned.
Conserving water at the time you most need it is only part of the answer. Good water conservation habits should be used all year round.
