Inspections ensure that your building project complies with the New Zealand Building Code.
A Code Compliance Certificate will be issued to you on completion of all inspections when you return your "Application for Code Compliance Certificate" form (with attachments).
Listed below are the various stages when inspections may be required and tells you how to get an inspection.
Building Inspections
Footings - with steel in place but prior to placement of
piles or concrete.
Bond Beams - with steel in place but prior to placement
of concrete.
Block Fill - with steel in place but prior to placement of
concrete.
Slab - with steel and polythene in place but prior to
placement of concrete.
Retaining Wall - with drainage and moisture barrier in
place but prior to back-filing
Tanking - with drainage and moisture barrier in place but
prior to back-filling
Columns - with steel in place but prior to placement of
concrete
Beams - with steel in place but prior to placement of
concrete
Tilt Slab - with steel in place but prior to placement of
concrete
Shear Wall - with steel in place but prior to placement
of concrete
Fire Wall - when walls are lined and stopped but prior to
painting
Brick Veneer - during placement of bricks
Pre-plaster - with exterior cladding in place but prior to
solid plaster or texture coat
Insulation - with insulation in place
Pre-line - prior to installation of any internal linings
Sheet Nailing - prior to fixing skirting, scotia, and prior
to gib-stopping
Final - on completion of all works
Solid Fuel Heater (Fireplace)
Inbuilt - once the chimney is prepared but before the
flue is placed in chimney
Free Standing - on completion of installation
Note: All solid fuel heaters must be installed as per
manufacturers installation instructions.
Swimming Pool Fence
On completion of fence but prior to filling the pool to a water depth exceeding 400mm
Plumbing Inspections
Under Floor - with pipe work in place but prior to
placement of concrete. Drainage under
the floor is to be water tested.
Pre-Line - with pipe work in place and under 1,500 Kpa
water test but prior to lining.
Final - on completion of all works
Drainage Inspections
With all drainage in place and under water test but prior to any back-filling.
How To Get An Inspection
Simply phone or call into the Thames Office or your Area Service Centre to request an inspection. You will need to provide the owner's name, location of the work, the type of inspection required, the Building Consent number and the time that you require the inspection.
To avoid unnecessary delays it is important to give at least 24 hours notice for an inspection.
