So you want to build......
The Building Act 2004 and the NZ Building Code place strict regulations on the construction of buildings and structures. The responsibility of ensuring these requirements are met lies with the Territorial Authority, in this case the Thames-Coromandel District Council.
The information below will ensure you have the information necessary to meet these requirements. Our approach stems from our desire to assist you to provide us with complete and sufficient information.
Project Information Memorandum (PIM)
All applications require a PIM before a Building Consent can be issued.
Building Consents - Do I need one?
Some building work like repairs and maintenance and other small jobs do not require a Building Consent and the exemptions are covered here.
Building Consents - How to apply

Building Consents - Checklist
For those who are unfamiliar with the requirements of the NZ Building Act 2004 and the NZ Building Code this will be of great assistance to you.
Inspections

You may not be aware that other consents may be required as well as your Building Consent. For example you may need a Resource Consent, a Health Licence or a Liquor Licence. Customer Services will be able to advise you.
Once you are aware of what is needed you can include all applications at once and you can also apply for a connection to Council's services - water, sewer and stormwater and apply for a vehicle crossing to be installed if you need one.
