Welcome to the Eastern Seaboard Wastewater Project- ES3
We are currently building three new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plants to serve Tairua-Pauanui, Whitianga and Whangamata.
These upgrades are essential because:
- The annual holiday influx places significant strain on our existing plants in these areas
- Upgrades are needed to meet growth
- Community plans have called for a higher standard of wastewater discharge
- Resource consents are requiring that we discharge treated water of a higher quality
This project ensures that the Eastern Seaboard Wastewater plants continue to meet the needs of our increasing population. It also enables the treatment plants to cope with any weather conditions such as heavy rain and storm events.
Two of the new wastewater plants - in Whitianga and Tairua/Pauanui - will open this year. Whangamata is due to be completed by December 2008.
An Open Day is being planned for Easter Saturday 2008 at the new treatment plant in Pauanui. Please contact us at the council to register your interest in attending.
See the 'media release' section of this website for more news on the individual wastewater treatment plants and their associated disposal works.
