Biodiversity Strategy

Thames-Coromandel District Council Vision:

The Coromandel Peninsula will grow in a way that embraces its spirit and natural beauty, by working with our communities to acknowledge diversity, nurture ecology and value our identity.

Although agencies such as the Department of Conservation, local organisations and landowners are dedicated to biodiversity, local authoroties have statutory obligations that require participation and advocacy.

The TCDC Biodiversity Strategy was developed by Council staff during 2007 and 2008 in order to direct and manage Council's involvement in the identification, protection and enhancement of the indigenous biodiversity on the Coromandel Peninsula. The Biodiversity Strategy was adopted by Council in April 2008 and is included in the Draft Ten Year Plan 2009-2019 as part of the Natural and Cultural Heritage Activity, where it is being considered for proposed levels of service and funding.

If you require further information on this strategy please contact the District Plan Team on 07 868 0200.
