Have your say in the future of Matarangi!
Ratepayers and members of the Matarangi community are invited to contribute to the Matarangi Community Plan currently being prepared by the Mercury Bay Community Board in conjunction with the Matarangi Ratepayers Association. This plan will reflect the hopes, ideas and priorities of our community for the future direction of Matarangi, so it is important you take advantage of this opportunity by completing this questionnaire and if possible, attending the community meeting (below).
The resulting document will form part of the Thames-Coromandel District Council’s long term plans. It will provide a framework which can be used to guide decision making for local planning purposes (although its contents are not binding on the Council). It may for example be used to secure support from within and outside the community for funding for specific projects. It is in the same format as that being prepared by other communities across the district and will be incorporated into a ‘Mercury Bay North Communities Outcome Document’. The plan will be both used and reported on annually to the Community Board and the public.
Matarangi Community
The Matarangi community is defined by the area covered by the staged residential development on the Omara Spit. Its original vision as a beach holiday destination is reflected in the comprehensive development that has continued since the 1970’s. It is bordered by the Whangapoua Harbour on one side and Matarangi beach open to the sea on the other.
