Born in Otorohanga - a small rural town in the Waikato region - the youngest of six.
After working on dairy farms for 4 years, went into the retail sector, where I spent 40 years in the trade. I met my wife, Nicola, we have been married for 42 years of bliss - have three wonderful children and six lovely grandchildren.
Moved to Whitianga in 1981 to purchase the supermarket. On selling the business in 1995, I entered local politics when elected to the Mercury Bay Community Board and then on to District Council in 1998.
My philosophy on life is simple - treat others as you would treat yourself, be kind and courteous, have a sense of humour and aim to make a difference.
