Thames Community Board

The Thames Community Board services from Hikutaia, at the District's southern boundary, to Waikawau along the Thames Coast, and includes a large area of coastal and rural bush.

Membership

There are four elected members to a community board, however Councillors are also members of various community boards.

Goals

To meet the needs of residents and the wider community through the provision of community services, public amenities, recreational, cultural and social opportunities in a manner which is recognised for quality performance.

  • To provide for the civic amenity needs of residents and visitors to Thames.
  • To ensure that the amenity values of the harbour are maintained so there is balance between user demands and conservation values.
  • To provide for the recreational, social and civic needs of residents and visitors to Thames, consistent with approved reserve management plans.
  • To protect public health through treatment and disposal of wastewater in an environmentally acceptable manner.
  • To protect public health, safety and the environment by the provision, maintenance, operation and regulation of affordable land drainage and stormwater dispersal systems.
  • To ensure a potable water supply is available to all properties within the Thames urban area, and maintain supplies at Matatoki and Thames Valley.
  • To protect and enhance the social well-being of the community by pro-actively managing compliance with the Community Board local bylaws.
  • To ensure that there is a roading (and associated works) network that meets the needs of the area.
