The Tairua/Pauanui Community Board services the settlements of Tairua and Pauanui and the wider rural area of Hikuai.
Membership
There are four elected members to a community board, however Councillors are also members of various community boards.

To recognise the differing needs and aspirations of our total community, and to ensure the provision of appropriate basic services to all people within the ward, efficiently and cost effectively.
- To maintain a healthy, safe environment by ensuring appropriate waste management and water supply services are available in the most cost effective manner and by positive enforcement of bylaws.
- To promote and maintain a safe, adequate transport network to appropriate standards.
- To maintain and improve the harbour amenity by balancing user demands and conservation values.
- To foster, maintain, or provide recreational and cultural facilities which recognise reasonable needs of the community.
- To promote unity of purpose by striving for a good working
relationship between the public, Community Board, and District Council.
- To plan for, and encourage, aesthetic and environmentally acceptable development, creating realistic employment opportunities, not in conflict with the expectations of the community.
