The "District Landscape Assessment" was commissioned by Council to provide a baseline to enable consistent decision making about the impact of development on views or landscapes over the whole District. In particular, the District Landscape Assessment identifies the views/landscapes that are most important - those that are "outstanding" or "amenity" (as well as "other" landscapes).
The District Landscape Assessment was initiated in 2004 when LA4 Landscape Architects were engaged to prepare a District Landscape Assessment. The initial draft was received by Council in August 2006. A peer review was subsequently undertaken by Stephen Brown of Stephen Brown Environments Ltd and a number of amendments and refinements were subsequently made to that assessment.
The amended District Landscape Assessment was received by Council on 16 September 2008 (which includes both the LA4 and Stephen Brown Environments Ltd report and maps) and landowner and community consultation will be initiated once the "preferred future" from the Coromandel Peninsula Blueprint project is known (scheduled for March 2009).
